How to Control the OVox Vocoder with MIDI in Logic Pro

Learn how to set up and control the Waves OVox vocal synthesis / vocoder plugin with MIDI in Logic Pro in order to achieve robotic vocals, morphing, harmonizing and talkbox effects.

  1. Create a ‘New Software Instrument Track’

  2. Search for OVox in the Instrument slot plugins list, and open it on the Software Instrument Track. Note that Logic may have placed a different instrument as a default setting.

  3. In OVox, make sure the ‘Note Source’ is set to either Auto or MIDI.

  4. Create an additional Audio track and record or import your vocal signal (this will be your Modulator). You can mute the audio track.

  5. Enable the Sidechain in OVox and set the vocal track above as your input.

  6. Play audio and MIDI from both tracks simultaneously for vocal synthesis / vocoder sounds, or load a Synth preset.
